Andrews Kurth Partner, Gail Merel, Elected as Fellow of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers

Andrews Kurth is pleased to announce that Gail Merel, partner, has been elected as a Fellow of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers (ACCFL). The induction ceremony will take place at the Fellows Annual Meeting on April 24.

Houston (Vocus/PRWEB ) April 23, 2010 -- Andrews Kurth is pleased to announce that Gail Merel, partner, has been elected as a Fellow of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers (ACCFL). The induction ceremony will take place at the Fellows Annual Meeting on April 24.

Membership in the ACCFL is limited to commercial finance lawyers, jurists and academics who have achieved preeminence in the field of commercial finance law and have contributed significantly to the education of others in commercial finance law through teaching, lecturing or published writings.

“It is an honor to be elected to the ACCFL and to be recognized in this way by colleagues and practitioners around the country,” said Merel.

Ms. Merel is a past Chair of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of Texas and has actively participated for many years in the work of the Texas State Bar’s Commercial Financial Services and Legal Opinions Committees. She has been an author and speaker on the subject of legal opinions in commercial finance transactions. Ms. Merel also currently serves on the Steering Committee and is a Vice-Chair of the national Working Group on Legal Opinions, an initiative of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association and state bar groups. She has been the Editor-in-Chief of the handbooks for that organization’s seminars for the past four years.

Ms. Merel is also a Director and the incoming Chair of the Texas Business Law Foundation. In addition, she is a member of the Steering Committee of DirectWomen, an initiative of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section and Catalyst, that supports accomplished women lawyers for service on U.S. corporate boards.

For each year from 2003-2009, Ms. Merel has been named a Texas Super Lawyer, as published in Law & Politics and Texas Monthly, as well as one of the Best Lawyers in America for 1995-2010, as published by Woodward/White Publications.

Ms. Merel received her JD, magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School where she also received her PhD and was a National Science Foundation Fellow.
