More than 200 families represented in lawsuit against builders, drywall subcontractors and suppliers.
Davie, FL (PRWEB) June 10, 2010 -- Two law firms have retained a renowned expert in Chinese drywall remediation, General Contractor Ken Flanz owner of Terre Neuve Corp. The two major law firms, representing more than 200 families who own homes built with contaminated Chinese drywall, have retained Flanz and his company to provide expert testimony in their class action lawsuit against numerous builders, drywall subcontractors and suppliers.
The two law firms, Milstein, Adelman and Kreger LLP of Santa Monica California and their co-counsel, Roberts and Durkee LLP of Coral Gables, Florida, have asked Flanz and other employees of Terre Neuve to testify as to the cost of remediating and reconstructing the contaminated homes that are the object of the lawsuit.
On April 8, 2010, a U.S. District Court found in favor of seven Virginia homeowners who sued Taishan Gypsum Ltd. of China for installing tainted Chinese Drywall in their homes. The judge detailed instructions for rehabilitating homes infected with the tainted drywall. Terre Neuve has used this same protocol as the basis for determining costs for renovating and restoring contaminated homes to their original condition.
“We have discovered that, in most cases, kitchen cabinets, granite countertops and bathroom fixtures can be safely removed and reinstalled with minimal damage and without compromising the effectiveness of the drywall remediation,” said Flanz, potentially reducing the cost of renovation.
Dozens of class action suits have been filed on behalf of thousands of homeowners in Florida, Virginia, Louisiana and other states where tainted drywall was used between 2001 and 2007 in new home construction. In Florida, 530 homes have been confirmed by the Department of Health as being contaminated. A recent bill signed by Governor Charlie Crist ordered property appraisers in the state to drop the value of those homes that cannot be remediated to as low as zero through the year 2017.
