"NationalCreditReport.com is again warning consumers that people committing Craigslist scams use the site as a vehicle to prey upon unsuspecting individuals who are either looking for an apartment or job-hunting," said Samuel S. Ambrose, Vice President of Marketing and Operations of NationalCreditReport.com. "Once again, we are advising consumers never to register for a credit report from any credit report provider through a link supplied by an entity you connect with via a Craigslist ad or an e-mail coming to you from an ad you replied to on Craigslist. Also, we remind you never to share personal information with anyone you do not know. We cannot stress this enough. We want to prevent people from falling victim to free credit report scams by Craigslist scammers."

NationalCreditReport.com is not a willing partner of any entity offering employment or rental properties on Craigslist. NationalCreditReport.com does not condone or authorize this activity and encourages anyone who falls victim of a Craigslist scam to report it to Craigslist. If you think that you've responded to a fraudulent posting on Craigslist, please forward the e-mail you received to abuse (at) craigslist (dot) org.

According to Ambrose, one example of a free credit report scam is when an innocent consumer responds to a Craigslist ad for a fake job posted by a Craigslist scammer using the name of a reputable, usually well-known business. Subsequent e-mail communications from the scammer tell the victim that in order to move forward to the next stage of the interview or rental-application process, they have to click the link provided by the scammer and get a credit report that they will then provide to the fake entity during their future interview or apartment visit. Once the scammer tells the victim where to purchase of the credit report, the victim never hears from them again.

"These scammers are abusing the legitimate method of online advertising called 'affiliate marketing'," said Ambrose. "Most companies who do business on the internet use some form of affiliate marketing to drive traffic and sales to their websites. This includes the world's largest retailers, banks and other corporations. It's a shame that these scammers are also tarnishing the reputations of the corporations whose names they are fraudulently using as fake job posters."

At the company's website, www.nationalcreditreport.com, consumers can sign-up for a free credit score which includes one credit report and a free, seven-day trial of its Triple Safeguard Credit Monitoring™ service. The company also offers consumers the opportunity to purchase their credit report and score for one low price with "no strings attached."
