Richard Jurewicz, senior partner at Pennsylvania law firm Galfand Berger, recently achieved the third largest civil damages award known in Berks County. The personal injury lawyer represented a factory worker severely injured on the job by a poorly designed machine. Attorney Jurewicz negotiated with the Austrian manufacturer of the machine and won a settlement in excess of $2 million for Galfand Berger's client.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Lexis Nexis/PRWEB ) November 17, 2009 -- Galfand Berger law firm senior partner Richard Jurewicz recently obtained the third-highest recovery ever recorded in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Mr. Jurewicz obtained a $2.2 million settlement for a 51-year-old factory worker severely injured on a coil stacker machine. The worker was pinned to the machine by its loading bar, causing him to suffer severe internal injuries which required several surgeries and a nearly three-month hospital stay.

Mr. Jurewicz filed suit against the machine's foreign manufacturer in the Berks County Court of Common Pleas (docket 07-9265). The lawsuit maintained that the company was liable for the worker's injuries as a result of its poorly designed machine. The Philadelphia attorney argued that the machine should have been equipped with guards at the coil loading point as well as a safety switch to move the coils in jog or reverse. "Our firm has a history of raising the bar for obtaining verdicts and settlements for injured workers in Pennsylvania since 1947," Jurewicz said.

Pennsylvania personal injury attorney Jurewicz previously set the record for the second-highest recovery in Berks County. In 2007, the Galfand Berger lawyer won a $2.5 million settlement (docket 03-11629) on behalf of a 55-year-old truck driver who fell at a refinery. An asphalt-loading pipe knocked the worker down twelve feet onto a concrete floor, causing him permanently disabling injuries. Jurewicz explained, "Harry Galfand and Albert Gerber founded this firm with one goal: to secure full and just compensation for people who have suffered injustices and injuries." He added, "All of the personal injury lawyers at Galfand Berger remain dedicated to the founders' mission of justice."
