Phoenix-based company marks employee and office growth as spectrum business booms
We are pleased with our growth over the past year and continue to see remarkable interest in the wireless communications industry.
Phoenix, Ariz. (PRWEB) June 21, 2010 -- Smartcomm LLC, a wireless communications consulting and investing firm, recently marked its one-year anniversary in its corporate headquarters and continues to expand in employees and physical office space as the industry’s appetite for its wireless expertise continues to grow.
Officially formed in late 2007 to provide consulting services to corporate and individual clients in the wireless communications industry, Smartcomm reviews and analyzes technological developments affecting the wireless communications industry. Smartcomm also monitors the rulemaking and other proceedings at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), transactions between wireless operating companies, the purchase of FCC licenses and daily business news related to the telecommunications industry as a whole.
Central to the mission of Smartcomm is to provide opportunities to participate in the growth of the wireless industry to individual and institutional investors. Specifically, Smartcomm specializes in opportunities to acquire 700 MHz, 800 MHz and 1.9 GHz band spectrum through the filing of license applications, participation in FCC public auctions or acquisitions in the secondary market.
Smartcomm’s headquarters, located along the Camelback Corridor in Phoenix, continues to expand and will soon house employees on two separate floors. In the past year alone, Smartcomm has hired more than 20 employees – ranging from sales and marketing professionals to technical and financial analysts – and now employs nearly 30 in-house employees and more than 40 outside sales representatives.
In April, Smartcomm’s principal owners formed a new company in Puerto Rico, Caribe Spectrum Holdings, to focus on wireless and spectrum opportunities in Puerto Rico and the greater Caribbean region. Caribe will open an office in Puerto Rico this summer and begin extending the company’s wireless communications expertise across the many island nations in the Caribbean. Smartcomm LLC is currently leading a group of investors building a 4G mobile broadband network in Puerto Rico.
“We are pleased with our growth over the past year and continue to see remarkable interest in the wireless communications industry,” said Carole Downs, president and co-founder of Smartcomm LLC. “Moving forward, we see many opportunities in 2010 and beyond. This is a critical time in the wireless communications field.”
FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski has long warned that the growing shortage of wireless spectrum is one of the FCC’s top concerns. With the proliferation of smart phones – BlackBerry, iPhone and others – consumers are using far more bandwidth than current networks can support. As the U.S. moves to adopt a 4G network, spectrum availability and demand will continue to be of utmost importance as will industry expertise.
