Industry Benchmark Report Finds Full Mobile Lifecycle Management and ITSM Critical to Enterprise Mobile Management
The findings in this Aberdeen report validate the need for proactive Mobile Service Management, which enables organizations to deliver continual optimal mobile performance, at the lowest cost and risk.
The report takes an in-depth look at the growing need for Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) at organizations that are dealing with the explosion of new mobile platforms, applications and devices, including employee-liable, entering the workplace.

Aberdeen defines EMM as enabling organizations to adapt rapidly to new mobile platforms, enforce compliance to IT standards, control access to corporate data networks and secure mobile endpoints at their points of vulnerability. The report found that companies that leverage mobility management are able to drive down support costs, improve performance and service quality of mobility infrastructure and increase the security and protection of mobile access to data and network assets.

“As the enterprise mobility space continues to evolve, many organizations are not implementing the mobile strategies necessary to address current and future growth,” stated Andrew Borg, Senior Research Analyst, Wireless & Mobility at Aberdeen. “With its MSM solution, BoxTone is offering customers a super-EMM, which integrates several mobility management functionalities to deliver a comprehensive view into the entire mobile infrastructure.”

For EMM to be successful, organizations must utilize it for the full mobile lifecycle, from “cradle to grave.” This includes provisioning, performance management, operations and support, compliance and security expense management and decommissioning. According to the report, an organization’s ability to contain costs and control mobile access to corporate assets is directly tied to the completeness of its EMM capability set.

“Traditional mobile device management tools have focused on basic connectivity and component management, ignoring the bigger issues of ongoing mobile operations, mobile-user service quality and full lifecycle management,” said Alan Snyder, CEO, BoxTone. “The findings in this Aberdeen report validate the need for proactive Mobile Service Management, which enables organizations to deliver continual optimal mobile performance, at the lowest cost and risk.”

The report states that best-in-class organizations clearly lead in the adoption of technologies that enable them to provide the same level of IT oversight and control over the mobile assets as they do over the more traditional fixed and wireline resources. Aberdeen’s data indicates that 70 percent of top performing organizations are developing detailed inventories of all network-connected mobile devices, and 70 percent of these companies have over the air (OTA) device management capabilities to enforce compliance and security.

Adds the report, "The time has come to consolidate all mobility initiatives under the watchful and process-oriented eye of central IT, through industry-standard IT Service Management (ITSM) processes.” It goes on to say that 42 percent of top performing companies utilize ITSM and this is “a testament to the value of mobility as a core IT infrastructure.”
