Tampa Bay Area Cracking Down on DUIs This Spring, Warns Tampa Attorney

Tampa DUI lawyer Jeff Rich of The Law Office of Jeffrey M. Rich warns Tampa Bay area residents and visitors that spring time can be prime time for DUI arrests and that Tampa police will likely be cracking down on drunk drivers, as well as enforcing stiffer penalties for first time offenders.

Tampa, FL (PRWEB) April 23, 2010 -- Tampa DUI Lawyer Jeff Rich of The Law Office of Jeffrey M. Rich (www.TampaCriminalDefenders.com) warns Tampa Bay area residents and visitors that spring time can be prime time for DUI arrests and that Tampa police will likely be cracking down on drunk drivers.

Every case is different, but in most cases, first time DUI offenders are sentenced to probation. However with the recent sentencing of Elizabeth Burgos – a first time DUI offender who was sentenced to jail time (ref: case number 09-CF-007973), Tampa judge may be increasing the sentences for individuals convicted of DUI. With the increase of vacationers to the area, as well as an overall increase in recreational drinking that comes with the warmer temperatures, Tampa police are on high alert, and showing little patience for those driving under the influence.

The recent sentencing of Borgos shows that judges in Tampa may be stiffing the penalties for first time offenders in Tampa.
“I often see an increase in DUI cases in the spring and summer months,” said Jeffrey Rich, Tampa DUI attorney with the Law Office of Jeffry M. Rich, “but the recent sentencing of Burgos shows that judges in Tampa may be stiffing the penalties for first time offenders in Tampa.”

DUI Attorney Rich believes that Tampa residents should be aware of consequences they might face if charged and convicted of a DUI. “DUI is a misdemeanor crime in the state Florida,” said Rich, “but probably the most complicated misdemeanor because you will be dealing with two different systems with different issues.”

The first system is the DHMV and the administrative suspension of your driving privilege that can result from a DUI arrest. The second system is the criminal justice system which can place restrictions on your life and liberties as result of the State Attorney’s office prosecuting you for violating a law in the state of Florida.

“If you’re out having a good time this spring, don’t drive drunk,” warns Rich. “If you do get pulled over for driving under the influence, it’s imperative you retain a lawyer who is well versed in Florida DUI law.”
