James Scott Farrin Sponsors Walk Like MADD to Benefit Mothers Against Drunk Driving

For the fifth year in a row, the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin was a local sponsor of the Walk Like MADD fundraiser to support the North Carolina Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)

Durham, NC (PRWEB) April 9, 2010 -- For the fifth year in a row, the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin was a local sponsor of the Walk Like MADD fundraiser to support the North Carolina Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). The event was held on March 27 at North Carolina State University’s (NCSU) Centennial Campus.

In addition to the firm’s significant financial contribution, a large number of the firm’s attorneys, staff, friends and family participated in the 5K walk as part of “Team JSF,” raising additional money for MADD.

"Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) helps prevent drunk drivers from entering the roadway through education, advocacy and victim’s services. Our partnership is a natural one," says founder and president James S. Farrin.
The Law Offices of James Scott Farrin’s commitment to eradicating drunk driving extends beyond the annual sponsorship. The firm’s founder and president, Attorney James S. Farrin, and the firm’s managing attorney for personal injury, Michael Jordan, both serve on the Advisory Board for the North Carolina Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). The firm has also sponsored public service announcements on television about the dangers of drunk driving.

“As a law firm that deals with personal injury, we are all too aware of the tremendous personal and societal costs associated with drunk driving,” says founder and president James S. Farrin. “Unfortunately, we often see people whose lives have already been shattered by drunk driving. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) helps prevent drunk drivers from entering the roadway through education, advocacy and victim’s services. Our partnership is a natural one.”

Alcohol-impaired driving is one of the most frequent and deadliest crimes in the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, alcohol was a factor in 11,773 motor vehicle-related deaths in 2008 – 32 percent of all traffic fatalities that year. In North Carolina, alcohol was a factor in 423 motor vehicle deaths in 2008 – almost 30 percent of all the state’s traffic fatalities that year.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving was incorporated in 1980 by Candy Lightner, whose daughter Cari was killed by a repeat drunk driving offender. She was soon joined by Cindy Lamb, whose daughter Laura became the nation’s youngest quadriplegic at the hands of a drunk driver. The organization currently offers educational, victim’s services and legislative advocacy programs to support its mission “to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking.” The Raleigh Walk Like MADD event raised more than $107,000 to benefit Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).
