Former Town Justice Advises Orange County Seniors on Elder Law Issues

Former Town Justice of Wallkill steps down from Bench to practice elder law in Middletown, New York. The increasing senior population in Orange County creates demand for legal services around long-term care planning.

Middletown, NY (PRWEB) April 10, 2010 -- The senior populations of Sullivan, Ulster and Orange County are increasing. With residents also still feeling the effects of the economic crisis of 2009, long-term care planning is becoming a more and more sought after and necessary legal service. Former Town Justice of Wallkill, Bonnie Kraham, recently stepped down from the Bench to advise seniors on elder law issues by joining the Middletown office of Ettinger Law Firm.

Based on the 2000 U.S. Census, older adults and seniors make up 32% of Orange County’s population. To deal with providing adequate care for this growing demographic, statewide initiatives now encourage “Aging in Place.” Staying current on changing New York Medicaid benefit eligibility rules is an essential component of long term care planning. Several elder law planning techniques, like the Medicaid Asset Protection Trust, may help protect family assets from both the cost of nursing home care and/or residential facilities.

“Ettinger Law Firm’s far-reaching reputation for solving the difficult emotional and legal issues facing seniors and its first rate client service, made it the right next step,” Kraham said about her decision to advise seniors on some of the most difficult decisions of their lives. “I am proud to join this distinguished team of professionals who share my passion for helping this wonderful group of people.”

Attorney Kraham will conduct an elder law estate planning seminar on Saturday, April 17 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hampton Inn in Middletown. This free educational seminar will also provide an open forum for questions and an opportunity for other seniors in the County to meet and discuss long-term care planning issues among themselves.

“Bonnie brings an invaluable perspective to seniors planning for their long-term care needs,” said principal attorney Michael Ettinger. “She spent many years serving the public as a Judge, legislator and lawyer and has seen close up how the legal system works. This first hand knowledge of the law, coupled with a strong dedication to senior issues, will help to provide our clients with unparalleled advice. ”

Ettinger Law Firm has been providing estate planning elder law services for over twenty years. With offices in Middletown, Fishkill and Rhinebeck, its attorneys and paralegals help seniors and baby boomers to plan for their long-term care health needs and to avoid family disputes over inheritances, estate taxes, and probate. Attorney Kraham is admitted to practice in New York and Florida. She received her Juris Doctorate from University of Miami School of Law.
