Rutgers University Offers Fundamentals of Finance and Accounting Workshop at Mount Laurel, New Jersey Location Aimed at Non-Financial Managers

Rutgers University offers innovative program to help non-financial managers better understand financial and accounting concepts to make better business decisions and communicate more effectively within the organization.

“Often a top engineer or marketer is promoted into a strategic or departmental manager or leadership role. He or she may not have financial or accounting training, but other managers around the table do," said Ray Compari, Associate Dean.

CAMDEN, NJ (PRWEB) March 18, 2010 -- The Rutgers University, Institute for Management and Executive Development (IMED) is launching a new program on fundamentals of finance and accounting, but aimed at non-financial managers. The program will be held over two consecutive Wednesdays beginning on April 21, 2010 and wrapping up on April 28, 2010. The workshops will be held at the new, plush Aloft Mount Laurel Hotel in Mount Laurel, New Jersey and located less than a mile for Interstate 295. For more details, go to http://finance.rutgers.edu.

The program was developed to help managers or leaders with a non-financial background understand key finance and accounting topics that are critical to lead or manage a company, department or unit. “Often a top engineer or marketer is promoted into a strategic or departmental manager or leadership role. He or she may not have financial or accounting training, but other managers around the table do. This two-day program is aimed at bridging the gap into the finance world for these fast track employees or rising stars,” said Ray Compari, Associate Dean at the School of Business at Rutgers University and Director of IMED.

The program covers topics such as interpreting financial statements, financial ratio analysis, using financial performance metrics in business decision making and business risk analysis among other topics. “The manager will learn the language of business, as well as learn key metrics and ratios to help make better business decisions,” said David Vance, the instructor for the course. Professor Vance holds an M.B.A., J.D. and holds a C.P.A. and is an Assistant Professor at the School of Business at Rutgers Camden. He has also held positions of CFO and Corporate Controller for companies in the private sector.

The course runs on Wednesday, April 21 and 28 from 8:30 to 4:30 and costs $1,250 per person and will be held at one of Starwood’s newest hotels, the Aloft Mount Laurel Hotel in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. Mount Laurel is a short drive from Philadelphia and Camden. Included in the costs are instruction, continental breakfast and course materials that course attendees will use and value for a long time. A 10% discount is given to organizations sending three or more attendees. Rutgers University alumni and veterans or military personnel are also given a 10% discount.
