WeTip and BISNAR | CHASE Aim to Wipe out California Hit-and-Run Offenses with Hit-and-Run Reward Program
Newport Beach, CA (Vocus/PRWEB ) March 29, 2010 -- WeTip, a leading anonymous crime reporting service and law enforcement advocacy non-profit organization, and the California personal injury attorneys of BISNAR | CHASE, today announced the launch of the California Hit-and-Run Reward™ Program (www.HitandRunReward.com). The program's goal is to wipe out California hit-and-run offenses by offering an anonymous reporting system and cash rewards to witnesses who care enough to report these crimes.
In California, the number of hit-and-run car accidents has risen sharply. After years of decline, more drivers are fleeing the scenes of deadly car crashes in California than in any other state in the nation. In 2007, close to 250 people died in hit-and-run car accidents in California, with more than 25,000 people suffering injuries from various types of hit-and-run collisions.1
With this new program, BISNAR | CHASE will fund hit-and-run rewards of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and felony conviction of hit-and-run drivers who have caused serious personal injury by way of anonymous tips provided through the Hit-and-Run Reward website, HitandRunReward.com, or through the Hit-and-Run Reward hotline at 800-6-Hit-N-Run (800-644-8678).
"We're extremely pleased BISNAR | CHASE is committed to eliminating the serious and ever growing crisis of hit-and-run driving offenses in California," said Susan Aguilar, CEO of WeTip. "Financial and technical support, such as the Hit-and-Run Reward program, is a crucial ingredient to the success of our initiatives. Not only does it maintain our efforts of preventing crimes and saving lives, it enables citizens to act as the eyes and ears of their communities -- safely, conveniently and anonymously."
Since its inception in 1972, WeTip has facilitated over 475,000 anonymous tips leading to over 15,000 criminal arrests and more than 8,000 convictions, including hit and run offenders. Tips from all 50 states, including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, as well as Canada, are managed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by the company's bilingual operators trained in safeguarding complete anonymity of each informant. In its 37-year history, not a single informant has ever been identified.
"California hit-and-run accidents have reached epidemic proportions," said John Bisnar, founder of
BISNAR | CHASE, a highly regarded Newport Beach, California personal injury law firm. "The goal of the Hit-and-Run Reward Program is to wipe out California hit-and-run offenses by offering cash rewards to anonymous tipsters who care enough to report these crimes."
Bisnar says his firm has seen an increase in the number of hit-and-run driving cases and wanted to do something to help stop the trend, so it developed the Hit-and-Run Reward program in partnership with WeTip. Bisnar says he is utterly appalled by the inhumanity of hit-and-run drivers who flee the scene of a serious accident, leaving injured victims to suffer or die. “It's my hope more violators will get prosecuted when witnesses have a place and method to anonymously turn them in and that perpetrators will be deterred from fleeing the scene when they know someone can and will report them."
