Washington Leaders Join Nation's Largest Anti-Sexual Violence Organization, RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network)
Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 11, 2010 -- RAINN, the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, today announced the appointment of two prominent leaders to its board of directors. Cybele Daley, vice president of Van Scoyoc Associates and former Acting Assistant Attorney General, and Tracy Sefl, senior vice president of Navigators Global in Washington, D.C., will help lead the organization as it expands its victim service, public education and public policy programs.
RAINN’s founder and president, Scott Berkowitz, noted how much his new colleagues have already done to fight sexual assault. “We’ve worked closely with Cybele for years to improve the criminal justice response to rape, and she’s been a great ally and advocate. Tracy’s communications expertise and academic background have helped RAINN strengthen its programs and help many more people. Together, their great experience and counsel will help RAINN continue as the country’s leading voice against sexual violence.”
Sefl is a political strategist who has been described as "one of the best in the business" by The Tim Russert Show and "tough as nails" by The Washington Post. Prior to joining Navigators Global, she was vice president at The Glover Park Group in Washington, D.C., where she led successful national media efforts for issue advocacy campaigns and corporate causes and advised the Hillary Clinton for President campaign on national media strategy and tactics. Sefl is also a published author on women’s health issues, and researched the causes of sexual violence during her Ph.D. studies in sociology at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
“The reason I got involved in politics is to improve people’s lives. As a member of RAINN’s board, I will do everything I can do to help and advocate for victims of sexual assault and their families,” said Sefl.
Before joining Van Scoyoc in 2008, Daley was Acting Assistant Attorney General, where she oversaw the Office of Justice Programs and its $2 billion budget. While at the Justice Department, her leadership helped police and prosecutors increase the use of DNA and other crime-fighting technologies to combat rape. Her current practice entails both the high-tech hardware and complicated policy issues of criminal justice.
“I support RAINN’s efforts to encourage victims of sexual assault report the crime to law enforcement, thereby getting more rapists off the streets,” said Daley. “Increasing reporting of sexual assault is vital to ending sexual violence.”
Frederick Arnold, chairman of RAINN’s board of directors, welcomed Sefl and Daley to the board. “The addition of Tracy Sefl and Cybele Daley strengthens RAINN’s ability to create and provide to the public leading national initiatives in each of the three areas of focus mandated by our mission: helping victims, educating the public about sexual assault and ensuring that rapists are brought to justice,” said Arnold. “RAINN’s board will greatly benefit from their track records and passion for fighting sexual violence, and we thank them for making this enhanced commitment to RAINN.”
