Employing several new proprietary algorithms and protocols, Desktop Alert 2010 achieves a new level of performance for alert delivery and network utilization. Desktop Alert's alert delivery engine ("the core") has been completely rewritten.
Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 8, 2010 -- Desktop Alert Inc., provider of Command and Control Mass Notification Systems, today announced Desktop Alert's new server platform. Desktop Alert 2010 sets a new bar for alert delivery performance. Desktop Alert 2010 can deliver 250,000 alerts in under 27 seconds (an average delivery time of 13 seconds). In addition, Desktop Alert 2010 has reduced its network footprint by 5x. Desktop Alert 2010 provides a stunning new "live reporting" interface, allowing the customer to truly visualize the delivery of alerts and subsequent user actions in real-time.
"We have achieved the holy grail in terms of performance, scale, and reliability, increasing all metrics simultaneously", said Phil Beisel, Desktop Alert's VP of Engineering and architect of Desktop Alert 2010. "With this release, we've set the bar high and jumped over it; at this point we are competing with ourselves."
With Desktop Alert 2010, the client/server protocol has also changed. The previous heavy-weight polling model has been replaced by a light-weight eventing model. Desktop Alert clients receive new alerts in near instant fashion. In addition, the new protocol vastly reduces the network footprint. While still using HTTP as the transport, the signaling protocol has been reduced to a mere 17 bytes of payload. This not only reduces the network footprint in terms of bytes sent, but this single packet model greatly reduces end-to-end latency. For backward compatibility, old clients can continue to connect to a Desktop Alert server using the 1.0 protocol.
Taking a further step, Desktop Alert provides a new "live reporting" interface. While delivery speed is critical, visualizing it in real-time is important too. Alert senders can now see the alert delivery process live using a new browser interface. Employing AJAX and HTML 5, the browser taps into the event stream to present alert delivery and action information to the customer in real-time. The customer must only click once to send the alert, the interface dynamically communicates with the web server (without the need for browser refresh) presenting alert delivery and action metrics.
Typically reporting is done after the fact--after the alert has been delivered and read by most of the user population. The hidden secret of why so few platforms provide this information in real-time is performance; it is difficult to distribute this information without affecting the delivery performance. Desktop Alert 2010 has been able to achieve real-time reporting with modest impact to delivery.
Desktop Alert 2010 will be available April 1st. Existing customers can upgrade to Desktop Alert 2010's client and server components separately or all at once.
