On April 22, 2010, EPA legislation will make RRP certification mandatory for renovators who disturb paint in pre-1978 and child occupied facilities. Cornerstone Training Institute is worked cohesively with Rochester Colonial to design a customized EPA-certified RRP class for its renovators.
Rochester, NY (PRWEB) March 17, 2010 -- Cornerstone Training Institute, an Environmental Safety Firm located in Rochester, NY, is working cohesively with Rochester Colonial to develop customized RRP (Renovation, Repair & Painting) training sessions for Rochester Colonial employees.
Starting April 22, 2010, all contractors who disturb paint in pre-1978 and child occupied facilities with more than 6 square feet per room or 20 square feet outside must be RRP trained and certified. Violators face fines in excess of $32K per violation per day. The legislation requires all firms and their employees to be properly trained to use lead-safe work practices in an effort to minimize lead exposure to building occupants.
Kevin Hutton, Vice President of Cornerstone Training Institute, met with Rochester Colonial executives to brainstorm ways they could make RRP certification classes relevant for their renovators. Using this input, Cornerstone designed a series of custom Lead Renovator Compliance classes that go beyond EPA guidelines to include specific procedures used during window and door installation projects.
Darren Yehl, President and Training Director at Cornerstone Training Institute, was excited to announce the recent collaboration with Rochester Colonial. "Customized training is something we've been moving toward for quite some time now. By working directly with Rochester Colonial, we get to learn about their renovation methods and figure out ways to intertwine those procedures with EPA guidelines. We hope to continue this process with other local businesses and develop more customized classroom training that's beneficial to each organization."
Paul Gionta, Vice President of Retail Operations at Rochester Colonial also chimed in regarding RRP certification. "With the safety of our employees and our customers in mind, Rochester Colonial was one of the first Rochester based companies to become RRP Certified. Once we understood the importance of lead safe work practices, we knew that training all our installers was the right thing to do. We also wanted training that not only met the minimum EPA standards, but also showed us how to do our work safely. We worked with Cornerstone to develop customized training that would focus on the type of work we do. So far the results have been outstanding and we look forward to crafting more custom training with Cornerstone in the future."
