List of Services to Include Social Networking Strategies, “Tweeting” on Twitter.com, Blogging, as Well as News Placements for Clients

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) January 1, 2010 -- Veteran newspaperman Tom York, most recently editor of the San Diego Business Journal, is relaunching his marketing and media practice under the name Tom York Public Relations (www.tomyorkpr.com).

York, who writes the popular SDBJ Insider column appearing on Page 3 of the San Diego Business Journal (www.sdbj.com), draws on more than 30 years of experience as a business expert for his clients.

My top-level experience in the competitive world of journalism gives me a competitive advantage in shaping story ideas and placing those stories with interested editors and reporters. I know what journalists need to succeed.
York will specialize in media relations, focusing on story placements, as well as on increasing client visibility on the Internet. He will provide social networking services, such as “tweeting” at Twitter.com, on behalf of clients and will create and ghost business blogs.

“As print continues to downsize and reorganize, the Internet becomes an increasingly important medium for client messaging to potential customers,” said York. “Indeed, the Internet has arrived, particularly now that social networking has shifted into the corporate suite. On online presence is mandatory to succeed in business.”

As editor of the San Diego Business Journal, Tom managed operations for the newspaper’s heavily trafficked Web site. During his tenure, the number of Web site newsletter subscriptions exploded from 15,000 to more than 22,000.

In his agency, York will also provide OpEd and guest commentary writing services, specializing in executive-level writing on issues of economic, social and political importance.

Established Track Record
York has an established track record in public relations. From 1997 to 2006, he was principal of his own agency in Silicon Valley and San Francisco, where he represented a wide variety of clients, ranging from the largest publicly traded corporations to the smallest technology startups. He wrote speeches for CEOs, as well as story-length articles for various commercial Web sites, including corporate-sponsored E-zines.
In his career, York served as the editor of two weekly business periodicals: the San Jose Silicon Valley Business Journal, and the Baltimore, Md., Business Journal. The early years on his resume feature stints as San Francisco bureau chief for U.S. News & World Report and managing editor of two suburban newspapers, the Tri-Valley Herald in Pleasanton, Calif., and The Argus in Fremont, Calif.

“My top-level experience in the competitive world of journalism gives me a competitive advantage in shaping story ideas and placing those stories with interested editors and reporters. I know what journalists need to succeed,” said York. “I began my career writing on a manual typewriter manufactured in 1913, and have witnessed the arrival of the Internet. Still, the more things change, the more they stay the same.”

York is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. He has two children, one currently in college.
