The Leadership Pinellas Program provides a variety of venues in which interested citizens can better understand some of our important community functions, some of our current or impending ones, and how they can become involved to help find solutions.

Leadership Pinellas is not a political activist group, nor is its purpose to endorse specific solutions to any problem. Leadership Pinellas is a problem-identifying organization, not a problem-solving one.

Leadership Pinellas provides our community with a continuing source of men and women motivated to assume leadership positions in civic, social, professional and charitable institutions.

Each year, approximately 35–38 men and women who live or work in Pinellas County are selected for the program from a cross-section of the professionals, business, government, education, religious, civic and minority organizations.

Over a 10-month period, class members attend a 2-day orientation session, eight full-day program days, a 3-day trip to the legislative session in Tallahassee, a law enforcement agency "Ride Along", and a graduation program. The class will select and participate in a Class Project designed to help and/or improve our community.

Leadership Pinellas was involved in the development and chartering of Leadership Tampa Bay as a graduate program for Leadership Pinellas, Leadership St. Petersburg and Leadership Tampa.

Leadership Pinellas is part of a National Program. The first leadership program was established in Philadelphia in 1959 and has run continuously since then. The idea spread to other cities, and in 1979 a national non-profit organization of leadership programs now known as The Community Leadership Association was established. Its mission is to strengthen and transform communities by enhancing the capacity of inclusive, community leadership efforts. The Association now has approximately 450 members, include Leadership Pinellas. Leadership Pinellas can be found online at leadershippinellas.com.
