On September 21, 2009, after a hotly contested 5 week trial, Mr. Scarlett obtained a $49 million verdict on behalf of a 21 year old college student who suffered devastating brain injuries as a passenger whose vehicle was struck during a cross-centerline big-rig truck accident near Gilroy, California. This verdict is believed to be the largest personal injury verdict by a Santa Clara County jury in at least 10 years, [Santa Clara County Superior Court, Action No.: 1-08-CV-104548 and is one of the top verdicts achieved nation-wide by any attorney in 2009.

Lead counsel Randall H. Scarlett was quoted as saying that this was a situation where the jurors fully understood the long-term implications and costs associated with traumatic brain injury.
