New York City Lawyer Launches Websites to Help Those Accused of DWI and DUI

With DWI and DUI arrests on the rise, New York City Attorney Michael S. Discioarro has launched several websites to help those caught in the New York City Criminal Justice system. The websites are specific to each county with advice on how to protect your rights in a DWI or DUI case.

(PRWEB) December 15, 2009 -- For the average person, being charged with DWI or DUI can be devastating. The costs can be upwards of $15,000.00 for a first offense, if convicted. Former prosecutor Michael S. Discioarro has launched borough specific DWI/DUI defense websites aimed at helping those accused of this crime. Mr. Discioarro states, "I have seen too many people pushed around by prosecutors in DWI cases and it is time to even the field." So www.dwimanhattan.com, www.dwibrooklyn.com, www.dwibronx.com, and www.newyorkcitydwi.com were born. www.dwiqueens.com and www.dwistatenisland.com will be coming soon. These websites give people accused of DWI specific information as it relates to how each county prosecutes DWI cases. Those accused can also call 917-519-8417 for immediate help.

The penalties for DWI have become harsher and harsher, due to recent DWI-related tragedies. If arrested, the NYPD will confiscate the car, the DMV will suspend the driver's license, and the accused may face jail time, even if it is their first arrest. In some cases people are forced into year-long programs in order to get their license back. The penalties for a DWI/DUI conviction, as stated, can be rough. But more problematic is the potential loss of jobs, security clearances, marriages, and all sorts of other secondary problems that people face when they have a criminal record. Prosecutors are making criminals out of people who would never dream of breaking the law.

It is important to protect the rights of the accused and make sure prosecutors are not railroading people into pleading guilty.
Most prosecutors refuse to comment on how their offices handle DWI cases. Mr. Discioarro says his office can help to guide a person through the system.
