The Drug Information Association (DIA), in cooperation with PhRMA, will host a workshop on Dried Blood Spot Sampling in the Pharmaceutical Industry: Methodology, Implementation and Best Practices on December 8, 2009 in Washington, DC.

Horsham, PA, USA (Vocus/PRWEB ) November 13, 2009 -- The Drug Information Association (DIA), in cooperation with PhRMA, will host a workshop on Dried Blood Spot Sampling in the Pharmaceutical Industry: Methodology, Implementation and Best Practices on December 8, 2009 in Washington, DC.

Dried blood spot (DBS) sampling on specialty papers is a novel methodology in the area of pharmacokinetics and toxicokinetics that serves to replace conventional plasma analysis for pharmaceutical development. The most notable advantage of this technique is the reduced blood collection volume requirements and ease of sample manipulation.

This one-day workshop will feature three cross-functional parallel tracks in toxicology/safety assessment (and in vivo considerations), bioanalytical, and pharmacokinetics/clinical that will:

  • Increase your awareness around DBS sampling
  • Share best practices for DBS use/implementation, sample collection, handling, and associated bioanalysis across three separate functional areas
  • Highlight opportunities for this technology to improve animal welfare and contribute to the 3Rs – replace, reduce, refine
  • Discuss case studies around technique and implementation
  • Discuss potential cost savings in the clinic – sample collection and sample shipment
  • Discuss future direction(s) of DBS sampling (metabolite ID, direct analysis, biopharmaceuticals, etc.)

Additional highlights include:

  • Podium presentations from industry leaders in DBS sampling techniques
  • Poster presentations around best practices, implementation, and advances
  • Networking opportunities across clinical pharmacokinetics, regulatory, bioanalysis, toxicology and other preclinical disciplines

Register for Dried Blood Spot Sampling Workshop.
