Perspectives Ltd Sees Healthy Use of Employee Assistance Programs During Economic Downturn

Bernie Dyme, president and CEO of Perspectives, highlights the benefits of employee assistance programs

Capitola, CA (PRWEB) August 13, 2009 -- Since co-founding Perspectives Ltd in 1981, Bernie Dyme has seen several shifts in the usage rates of employees engaging employee assistance programs (EAPs). Dyme, president and CEO of Perspectives, recently sat down with HRmarketer.com's president, Kevin Grossman to discuss these trends and other issues impacting employers. In HRmarketer's HR Market Share podcast, Dyme shares his views on the increase in utilization rates of EAPs and the benefits of companies offering EAPs to their employees.

"Historically, in an economic downturn, EAPs have been seen as an expendable service and have typically been one of the first services to go," said Dyme. "Now, companies are seeing the value of investing in their employees, especially during these difficult times."

Dyme has experienced three economic downturns during his tenure at Perspectives, a Chicago-based workplace resources firm specializing in the nationwide delivery of EAPs, managed behavioral healthcare, work/life services, organizational development and wellness services. EAPs from Perspectives are tailored for each organization to enhance employee health and productivity by addressing personal issues, providing appropriate counseling or treatment and re-introducing employees to the workplace with renewed productivity.

In the early 1980s, Dyme saw utilization rates of EAPs by employees between two to four percent. Today, utilization rates have jumped as high as 27 percent. Dyme attributes the climb in usage rates to companies understanding the value of EAPs and championing the programs to their own employees.

During the HR Market Share podcast, Dyme also compares the difference between a comprehensive high-touch EAP and the true cost of, what Dyme refers to as, a free or embedded EAP, as well as provides anecdotal evidence on the financial impact an EAP can have on a business.
