Today, National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) President and Chief Executive Officer Steven C. Anderson, IOM, CAE submitted a letter to President Barack Obama commending his commitment to healthcare reform on the eve of the first White House Health Care Summit.
Alexandria, Va. (Vocus/PRWEB ) March 4, 2009 -- Today, National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) President and Chief Executive Officer Steven C. Anderson, IOM, CAE submitted a letter to President Barack Obama commending his commitment to healthcare reform on the eve of the first White House Health Care Summit.
"Earlier this year, NACDS was pleased to discuss our Principles for Healthcare Reform and the critical role of pharmacists in the healthcare delivery system with your transition team," Anderson said in the letter.
"Pharmacies are the face of neighborhood healthcare, providing critical services such as medication therapy management, immunizations and disease state management in addition to providing patients with their prescription medications and healthcare supplies. Interactions with local pharmacists have been shown to improve health outcomes and reduce healthcare spending, particularly for patients with chronic diseases," Anderson continued in the letter.
Anderson commended the President's shared vision of healthcare reform, acknowledging that the NACDS Principles and the President's plan for healthcare reform - ensuring "appropriate access to healthcare to all Americans in a cost-effective, sustainable manner" - is the same.
"NACDS is consistently engaged in efforts to advance pharmacy as part of the healthcare system," said Anderson. "We look forward to future opportunities to discuss with President Obama and his Administration the vital role our industry plays in meeting our shared goals."
The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) represents traditional drug stores, supermarkets, and mass merchants with pharmacies. Its more than 160 chain member companies include regional chains with a minimum of four stores to national companies. NACDS members also include more than 1,000 suppliers of pharmacy and front-end products, and 85 international members representing 28 countries. Chains operate 39,000 pharmacies, and employ a total of more than 2.5 million employees, including 118,000 pharmacists.
