The Microsoft System Center Alliance brings together technology providers with depth of knowledge in broad and specific areas of IT infrastructure management -- as BoxTone has demonstrated with the BlackBerry platform -- to easily integrate their technology and expertise with our System Center management offerings
The announcement builds on an already proven combination of solutions -- BoxTone software for the management, monitoring & support of the BlackBerry platform, and System Center Operations Manager 2007 with the Microsoft Exchange Server Management Pack -- to enable comprehensive end-to-end service level management of the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution for Microsoft Exchange platform.

"The Microsoft System Center Alliance brings together technology providers with depth of knowledge in broad and specific areas of IT infrastructure management -- as BoxTone has demonstrated with the BlackBerry platform -- to easily integrate their technology and expertise with our System Center management offerings," said JD Marymee, Director of Strategic Partner Alliances, Management and Services Division at Microsoft. "We are pleased to have BoxTone join the System Center Alliance to help broaden the awareness of management solutions available to our mutual customers for their IT infrastructures, regardless of their hardware or software configuration."

"Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 with Exchange Server Management Pack is recognized as the de facto standard for monitoring Microsoft platforms, including the Microsoft Exchange Server, Active Directory and Windows OS," said Brian Reed, VP of Products, BoxTone. "Thanks to a robust BoxTone Connector and best practices advocated under this alliance, BoxTone extends Microsoft's gold standard in monitoring to the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution, including the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, wireless carriers, RIM SRP and individual BlackBerry smartphone users."

Added Reed, "The real winners from this important combination of Microsoft and BoxTone are the legions of organizations that can leverage BoxTone's deep BlackBerry expertise and technology within the proven System Center framework. These customers can now access performance and service level data to monitor, manage, and optimize their mobile messaging environments."

BoxTone's software is deployed at more than 190 organizations globally to manage, monitor and support their BlackBerry platforms and smartphone users. At the software's core lies SmartMP(TM), a patented technology that uses high-volume data collectors, analyzers and mobile pattern-specific rules engines to instrument and measure end-to-end the actual performance of all BlackBerry users 24x7.

Those individual points of actual user experience performance -- including performance at each hop of user email and application flows -- are correlated with hundreds of application-level and infrastructure-level data points to paint a true real-time and historical picture of BlackBerry smartphone user and BlackBerry-component health and performance. The BoxTone platform includes Web-based desktop and handheld dashboards, and consoles and reports by IT role, so that engineering, operations, service desk, telecom, security/compliance and management teams can all be instant mobility experts.

For users of System Center Operations Manager 2007 with the Microsoft Exchange Server Management Pack, the addition of BoxTone software delivers to an infrastructure monitoring team a consolidated view of end-to-end BlackBerry platform health for the team; maps to server and network topology to define dependencies and impacts, allowing for fast resolution by the appropriate IT team; and configurable BlackBerry platform-health status via overrides.

Without ever leaving System Center, users can easily monitor the state of each BlackBerry Enterprise Server as well as a history of alerts, events and overall service levels. But when needed, drill-down links lead into the actual BoxTone software, where users can access all consoles and dashboards for detailed information, statistics, root-cause and resolution instructions.

The results? System Center users can now more easily monitor and understand mobile BlackBerry user performance, availability, capacity and service levels; be proactively alerted when user, carrier or infrastructure performance trends badly away from normal, or outright fails; quickly understand the location, root cause, severity and breadth of impact for an issue, and the right IT resource to execute the fix; and identify hidden issues or chronic problems within the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory and other infrastructure.

"BoxTone has long embraced the System Center Alliance mission to help IT staff eliminate manual tasks in favor of more streamlined, cost-effective, automated processes," said Reed. "Mobile platforms are highly distributed, touching multiple components both inside and outside the firewall, and supported by multiple teams. With centralized administration made possible by BoxTone and Microsoft software products, organizations can reduce mobile platform total cost of ownership and improve service levels, without the need for more personnel."
