Record Wrongful Death Settlement of $2.8 Million Obtained on Behalf of 22-Year-Old Killed in Kendall County, Ill

Monday, July 28, marked the largest wrongful death settlement in Kendall County history, for $2.8 million. The decision resulted from the death of 22-year-old Shannon M. Orr, who was killed when a grocery store truck rear-ended her car near Route 126 and Ridge Road in Na Saw Township in Kendall County, Illinois. The accident and death took place on April 23, 2004. The decision resulted from the death of 22-year-old Shannon M. Orr, who was killed when a grocery store truck rear-ended her car near Route 126 and Ridge Road in Na Saw Township in Kendall County, Illinois. The accident and death took place on April 23, 2004. According to reports, Orr's car was stopped behind a concrete truck on Route 126 when the semi-trailer food truck approached from behind Orr's car, and failed to stop, pushing her car into the concrete truck and causing it to burst into flames and collapse.

"This accident was avoidable," said Jeffrey Kroll, Chicago personal injury and wrongful death attorney. Orr is survived by her mother, Cindy Smith; her father, Dallas Orr; and her brother Dylan Orr.

Judge Timothy McCann entered the order today with $2.8 million wrongful death compensation coming from the food store whose truck hit Orr's car. Case number 08 L 32 in County of Kendall in State of Illinois Court.
