New York City Should Be Careful About Laws On Police Carrying Tasers

New York City personal injury attorney, David Perecman comments on recent cases of police brutality and the improper use of tasers

New York, NY (PRWEB) July 30, 2008 -- David Perecman, a leading personal injury attorney in New York City, is speaking out against police brutality cases and the laws on carrying tasers. Most recently, a woman is suing the police at Regan National Airport for 10 million dollars claiming she has permanent brain damage. About 10% of the New York City Police Department is currently carrying tasers as the police chief is testing the program before issuing them to over 3,000 officers. Tasers have become very popular as an alternative for officers as a less powerful weapon choice than their guns.

The question from the point of view as a personal injury lawyer is whether issuing them to the other officers will bring about a spike in police brutality cases. "We've seen this before, allegations that police use tasers under circumstances they probably shouldn't have, potentially costing cities and tax payers millions of dollars," said David Perecman. "Police Officers should receive proper training before handing them 50,000 volt machines which could potentially cause serious consequences."

Police tasers have received a lot of attention these past few months especially after the incident with the University of Florida Student at the Senator John Kerry event.
