United Way Worldwide Director of Health Policy Launches Campaign for the Maryland House of Delegates
Bethesda, Maryland (PRWEB) July 5, 2010 -- Hrant Jamgochian launched his campaign for District 16 Delegate with a campaign kick-off at his home earlier this week attended by more than 70 neighbors and friends.
Judy DeVito, Executive Director for the Maryland Psychological Association, introduced Jamgochian to attendees. She spoke about his tireless advocacy efforts to improve patient access to mental health services as well as his extensive health policy experience, which is why she was supporting his candidacy.
Jamgochian discussed the many opportunities provided by health reform, emphasizing that much of the new law would be implemented at the state level, where his expertise could be invaluable. Jamgochian obtained his LL.M. in Global Health Law from the Georgetown University Law Center and has worked on health issues for most of his career, currently serving as the Director of Health Policy for United Way Worldwide.
Ending overcrowded schools, supporting improved STEM education (science, technology, engineering and math), as well as implementing some modifications to Maryland’s Race to the Top, were the themes behind his education priorities. The life-long environmentalist also discussed how implementation of the purple line, strong “smart growth” policies and designated transportation funding would not only help improve our environment and reduce traffic congestion, but would also help our struggling economy.
Campaign Treasurer Gwen Majette concluded the event by encouraging attendees to contribute to Jamgochian’s campaign, to ensure that District 16 would have the type of leadership and experience that spurred her to join the campaign. Attendees responded with more then 30 contributions totaling over $6,000 at this get-to-know the candidate event.
