Multi-Million Success as Local Business Wins NHS Scotland Locums Doctor Contract

MP Locums, a Polmont-based agency supplying medical locums to the NHS, has won a place on the new NHS Scotland framework contract. One of only 5 suppliers and the only Scottish Locum Doctors Agency, not only will MP Locums help the NHS make substantial savings through this framework agreement, but their recruitment policy is helping locals who are actively looking for work.

(PRWEB) June 2, 2010 -- MP Locums, a Polmont-based agency supplying medical locums to the NHS, has won an NHS Scotland contract as one of five companies placing locum doctors in hospitals throughout Scotland from June 1.

MP Locums is the only Scotland-based company to secure a share of the new contract. The company employs eight people and works with hospitals and GP practices across the UK to find temporary locum doctors to stand in for others when they are on holiday, maternity or parental leave, off sick or training.

NHS Scotland spent £29m on Locum Doctors in 2009, we are delighted to help them make significant savings on this spend through the new Framework Agreement.
The new contract is a framework agreement, the type of contract where suppliers agree at national level the terms and conditions that will apply to individual contracts won during the two years of the agreement. Once the contract begins, the 14 NHS Boards in Scotland can contact MP Locums individually to request a locum to fill a specific vacancy.

MP Locums Director Susan Park said: “Last year, the NHS in Scotland spent some £29 million employing temporary doctors. If applied rigorously then this contract should enable NHS Scotland to make significant savings on this spend and we are delighted to have won a place on the new contract. When we set up MP Locums we made a commitment to take on people who were unemployed. That’s what we have done and we now have a strong team of eight, fully-trained staff who will work on this new NHS Scotland contract.

“We are in a particularly strong position because we are the only Framework company based in Scotland,” she continued. “Finding and placing temporary doctors needs skill and judgement. Our hospital locums have to give patients the best possible care so our vetting process is rigorous. But because we are a local company, we understand the health service in Scotland and the challenges hospitals here face. That means that we are much better able to place the right doctor in the right vacancy. We see every doctor who applies to us individually for a face-to-face interview and we check their qualifications and experience thoroughly before we accept them. When we place a locum, therefore, we have absolute confidence that he or she will be the best choice for patients.”
