James Scott Farrin Attorney Admitted to Practice Before the US Supreme Court

Attorney Rick Fleming, head of the Social Security Disability Department at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, was recently admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States.

Durham, NC (PRWEB) June 24, 2010 -- Attorney Rick Fleming, head of the Social Security Disability Department at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, was recently admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States.

He is the second attorney at the firm to obtain that honor. Attorney Eric Haase, a personal injury attorney at the firm, is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. Both Rick Fleming and Eric Haase are shareholders at the firm.

Rick Fleming became admitted to practice before the Supreme Court after winning a Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) case involving a woman disabled by severe back pain and depression. Her application for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) was denied at both initial application and through two levels of appeal. She finally won the case on the third level of appeal (to the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of North Carolina, Northern Division).

Rick Fleming represented her throughout the process.

The U.S. Social Security Administration appealed the ruling to the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. The only recourse beyond that would be a direct appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. Rick Fleming sought approval to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court in anticipation of that possibility. However, the Social Security Administration then withdrew the appeal. The woman is now getting Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits.

Rick Fleming joined the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin in 2002 and became a shareholder in 2008. He has earned recognition by the North Carolina State Bar as a North Carolina Board Certified Specialist in Social Security Disability Law. He is also bilingual in Spanish and English.

Rick Fleming is currently chair of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice (NCAJ) Disability Advocacy Section. He has been active with the Disability Advocacy Section for many years, serving as Secretary in 2008, Vice Chair in 2009, and Co-Chair of Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Committee from 2004 to 2008. He is also a former member of both the Workers’ Compensation and Auto Torts sections.

Other organizations Rick Fleming is involved with include the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR) and the American Association for Justice (AAJ).
