Warrior Baseball and Softball Season at Abundant Life Academy

Abundant Life Academy takes the opportunity to enhance student's leadership skills through sports. We're amped, ready, and well into our baseball and softball season. Enjoy this sports update from Male Academy Program Director and baseball/softball coach, Shawn Breeden.

Kanab, UT (PRWEB) May 15, 2010 -- The Warrior baseball team from Abundant Life Academy notched their first victory of the year with a dominating win over the Cardinals of Shonto school. Dominating pitching performances by several Warrior pitchers lead the way in a 24 - 4 victory. Timely hitting and good defense helped to seal the win for the visiting team. Abundant Life Academy got off to a quick start in the first inning as six of the first seven batters safely reached base. After scoring five runs, the Warriors took the field defensively and watched their starting pitcher record three straight strike outs on 13 pitches. Abundant Life Academy added four more runs in the second inning and five more runs in both the third and fourth innings.

The Lady Warriors softball team also competed against the Lady Cardinals of Shonto. Unlike the boys, the girls team started very slowly in the first and second innings and dug them selves a deep hole. After a rousing speech from their head coach, the Lady Warrior bats came alive. Several players had the long ball working as Abundant
Life Academy had 5 homeruns in the game, including a grand slam by the first baseman. Despite the strong hitting performance, the Lady Warriors were not able to make up for the early mistakes and ended up losing 17 to 18. After the game, the manager for Abundant Life Academy talked about the rally that came up just short.

"We really fought hard to get back in the game and I'm very proud of our players. There's a great lesson for us in this game: that we need to show up, ready to play at the start of every game. Ultimately, we gave up to many runs in the first two innings and that really cost us at the end. It was good to see our bats get going later in the game. I am pleased with our season progress."

The Lady Warriors are faced with the challenge of several players who have not played softball in several years. This game marked the first game with a final score that was close for Abundant Life Academy.

Abundant Life Academy also participates in football, cheer, and boys and girls basketball throughout the year.
