Seaside, CA (PRWEB) May 19, 2010 -- Monterey College of Law announced seven new lawyers from the February 2010 California Bar Exam results released Friday, May 14. The class of 2010 has three new lawyers; Danielle Creedon, Margarita Mikhaylova, and Jesse Obrand. Four MCL graduates from previous classes also passed the exam; Janet Anderson, Tori Chesebrough-Buckles, Jennifer Rosenthal Iverson, and Joshua Powers.
Mitch Winick, Dean of Monterey College of Law, stated, "The February Bar exam is statistically an extremely difficult exam, with only a 37% state-wide pass rate. We are extremely proud of our seven new lawyers who accomplished such a difficult professional achievement by passing the hardest bar exam in the country. Although they represent a small group of early graduates, our class of 2010 achieved a 37.5% pass rate, beating the overall state average (37.1%) and the first-time pass rate of the California state-accredited law schools.”
“To give you an idea of the difficulty of the California Bar Exam, more than half (57%) of the attorneys already licensed to practice law in other jurisdictions, failed in their attempt to pass the February California bar exam and be licensed in California,” pointed out Winick.
"The MCL classes of 2007 and 2008 have a cumulative pass rate of 76% and 71% respectively. Our class of 2009 has increased its cumulative pass rate to 53% and I anticipate several additional new lawyers from this group from the July 2010 bar exam,” reported Dean of Admissions Wendy LaRiviere. “Because our graduates work throughout law school and while they prepare for the bar exam, it is very common for them to take the bar exam more than one time. The fact that we continue to have successful repeat-takers is a testament to quality of our program and the dedication and persistence of our graduates," said LaRiviere.
MCL will be hosting a public swearing-in ceremony, 5:00 p.m., Thursday, May 27th at the law school’s new Community Justice Center located adjacent to the law school at 100 Col. Durham Street, Seaside, CA. The law school also welcomes local graduates of other law schools who passed the bar and who would like to participate in the swearing-in ceremony.
