New Metadata Cleaning Server from Workshare Eliminates Risk Across the Organization

Server-based software protects information shared by mobile and webmail users, delivers complete solution when combined with Workshare desktop applications

San Francisco, CA (Vocus/PRWEB ) March 22, 2010 -- Workshare, the leader in metadata removal software, announced the release of Workshare Protect Server with its “protect everywhere capability,” providing server-based metadata cleaning for information shared by mobile and webmail users. The new solution secures confidential information being managed by Blackberry, iPhone and other mobile devices, removing metadata contained in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF attachments. Workshare Protect Server also cleans attachments sent with Outlook Web access and Lotus iNotes.

Because it cleans metadata whenever users are on the move, Workshare Protect Server becomes an integral part of a total metadata removal solution. When integrated with a metadata cleaning desktop client like Workshare Professional or Workshare Protect, which provide end-users greater control and additional security features, the total solution protects information and reduces the risk of metadata leaks wherever and however users are working – in the office or via mobile device.

The new Workshare Protect Server allows for central configuration of metadata policies across all users from an administrative web console. The console is easily available from any PC with access to the Workshare Protect Server on the corporate network. Administrators may also monitor, track and audit metadata traffic across the organization, checking on what attachments were being sent out and to whom, and what metadata was cleaned.

APIs included in Workshare Protect Server provide the ability to develop custom metadata protection applications which can be integrated into other enterprise applications. It can be used with Microsoft SharePoint, traditional document management systems, contract management systems and other commercial or in-house applications where it is important to remove document metadata.

“Workshare Protect Server provides customers tremendous security when it comes to securing confidential information wherever people are working,” explained Matthew Brown, Vice President of Marketing. “People are constantly on the move and with that mobility comes the need for maintaining confidential information wherever you are – from your desktop or from your Blackberry on the other side of the globe.”

Also announced today, both Workshare Protect and Workshare Professional have been upgraded and enhanced with a new service release. These new versions are faster and include numerous improvements in flexibility, and provide an upgraded user interface, among other changes.

Other Key Features of Workshare Protect Server:

  • Embedded email support cleans metadata from all email layers
  • Cleans reports and email alerts
  • Flexibility to customize policies for mobile users and document types
  • Monitors all outbound emails for metadata violations
  • Platform independent – Mac and Windows
