In preparation for the upcoming presentations, Harbor Homes disaster recovery division, Haitihouse.org last week chaired the opening panel on construction, reconstruction and infrastructure development at the Global Investments Summit in Miami, which brought together a wide range of executives from the public, private and government sectors including many UN and worldwide humanitarian agencies. Highlighting the release of its innovative third generation disaster recovery housing solution - PermaShelter(tm) - the company introduced key speakers supporting the Haitian rebuilding effort and moderated the panel.

Working in conjunction with the Hart Lyman Companies LLC, a major U.S. real estate developer with expertise in all aspects of commercial and residential development, demolition, abatement and debris removal, environmental remediation, utility and infrastructure creation, Harbor Homes has master planned several self-sustaining Haitian resettlement villages.

The Harbor Homes/Hart Lyman joint venture has grown substantially in scope in only a few weeks, just as the finished home products have matured. Valuable input and insight was gained by constant interaction with Haitian families, mission groups and government representatives. A comprehensive plan has been created to establish factory space and employ Haitians in every phase of the operation.

On the ground in Haiti, strategic alliances have been established. Tecina S.A., one of Haiti's largest design, engineering and construction firms, has demonstrated a readiness with equipment and a large workforce. Haytrac, Haiti's largest service and equipment supplier, joins with the consortium, as well as Testa Corp. one of the largest U.S. demolition firms, and CHA companies, a large international civil engineering firm with a full host of design professionals and seismic specialists. The Hart Lyman Companies and their consortium are prepared to redevelop thousands of hectares in Haiti.

With dozens of diseases identified in Haiti, waste sanitation, fresh water, and clean environments along with hurricaneproof homes are the top priorities to stem the tide of ongoing debilitation. Hart Lyman has designed the resettlement villages to include fresh water sources and human waste treatment, along with the PermaShelter(tm) home and cargo2(tm) village support container units to create affordable, sanitary homes with independent fresh water sources where needed, in-house water treatment and solar powered electric delivering lighting, improved air flow and many other features that will combat disease. Once waste treatment and fresh water delivery are conquered, even on the village level, this will lead to greatly improved health conditions for the residents. Inherent features, such as the sloped roof which disallows standing mosquito breeding areas, and the raised floor on an anchored, galvanized structural steel welded frame, make PermaShelter(tm) an ideal choice for the nation since it is engineering certified to withstand 150 mph winds and is rated seismic D.

A native Haitian workforce will be trained to install and service the upgrades of the PermaShelter(tm) products as part of a four-stage economic development plan already under way to help Haiti expand employment. The stated housing goals of Harbor Homes include manufacture of houses that will lower crowding, improve sanitation, provide safer water, eliminate humidity, and create safer environments to lower traumatic injuries, so the medical care available can actually treat people and save lives. PermaShelter(tm) answers many of these most important needs for a permanent housing solution.

With rapid deployment, PermaShelter(tm) homes, which fit fourteen to a single shipping container, can be constructed by a handful of people without special skills with only the use of a wrench in less than a half hour each. The cargo2(tm) container units can be delivered and placed ready-to-use with only final water, sewer or power hookups to be made on-site.

Formerly a private FEMA contractor, Harbor Homes LLC, HaitiHouse(tm) Division has an impeccable record producing temporary housing, travel trailers, and more for disaster relief inside the United States. After hurricane Katrina, another division was responsible for building and transporting thousands of park model homes for American families.

A pioneer in Indoor Air Quality materials selection, processing and testing, Harbor Homes has delivered housing that far exceeds FEMA requirements for low or no formaldehyde, volatile organic compounds and other contaminants. Harbor Homes, using structural steel frames and uniquely insulated steel walls has eliminated almost all wood, adhesives, foam, polyisocyanurates, fiberglass, plastics and items that cause higher toxic levels, which can lead to future health issues.
