Cliff Blackman, nationally renowned brain injury attorney, calls on transportation authorities to better protect charter bus passengers from catastrophic injuries in accidents
San Francisco, Calif. (Lexis Nexis/PRWEB ) March 10, 2010 -- Last Friday's tragic bus accident that occurred near Phoenix, in which six passengers were killed and eight more were seriously injured, serves as a poignant illustration of the need for improvements in charter bus safety, according to brain injury lawyer Clifford A. Blackman.
The horrific accident occurred on Interstate 10, approximately 25 miles south of Phoenix, while the charter bus was traveling from Mexico to Los Angeles. The bus crashed into a pickup truck and rolled over, eventually landing on its wheels. Six people were killed in the accident, including two women and four men.
Eight more individuals were seriously injured and were taken to Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, where it was reported that six of the victims were in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. The injuries included broken spines, broken pelvises and head injuries.
"This tragic accident is an awful reminder of the serious need for improvements in charter bus safety in the U.S. so that passengers can be better protected from the catastrophic injuries often suffered in these kinds of accidents," said Blackman, founder and chief executive officer of Blackman Legal Group, a nationwide brain injury law firm. "Anyone who has a friend or loved one who has suffered a brain injury in an automotive accident needs to be aware of the serious, lifelong implications of these traumatic injuries. In the rare event that the injury was the result of someone else's negligence or if there is a dispute regarding insurance coverage, these families need to take careful consideration of their rights."
