Irvine, CA (PRWEB) March 2, 2010 -- Ex-Winston cigarette pitchman-turned-advocate for inLife electronic cigarettes David Goerlitz,(www.winstonmaninlife.com), is baffled as to why governmental and private health advocacy groups, which are tasked with guarding the public against tobacco product harm and promoting medical advancements, are not supporting the electronic cigarette as a logical and safer alternative for American smokers.
From 1981 until 1988, David Goerlitz played the lead in 42 ads that featured the rugged actor/model glamorizing cigarette smoking, taking Winston cigarettes from the number four selling brand all the way to number two. In November,1988, Mr. Goerlitz took a historic stand against the tobacco industry, publicly participating in the "Great American Smoke-Out", condemning the tobacco industry's advertising and embarking on a worldwide personal crusade to undo the damage his ads had done. Mr. Goerlitz has since been honored by the World Health Organization, The American Cancer Society, The American Lung Association, and The American Heart Association on both the national and local levels. Over the past several years, he has told his story to over 5,000,000 young people and adults throughout North America, Taiwan, Japan, Australia, and, most recently, Sweden.
According to Mr. Goerlitz, “The electronic cigarette is now providing hundreds of thousands of Americans with the option of enjoying nicotine without the 66 known carcinogens, tar and other 6,000 chemicals that smokers ingest from tobacco cigarettes. The electronic cigarette contains only 13 ingredients, all of which have been generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA and have been in the U.S. food supply for generations." Mr. Goerlitz is horrified that neither the FDA nor private health advocacy groups are even minimally supportive of this new nicotine alternative to tobacco cigarettes.
To date, there have been 16 scientific studies completed on the electronic cigarette (http://truthaboutecigs.com/studies.php), including the FDA and the National Cancer Institute’s own e-cig studies. Not one completed and published study has found any toxins or carcinogens at any levels that are harmful to humans. In fact, the FDA’s own e-cig study proved the electronic cigarette is up to 1,400 times safer than the smoking of tobacco cigarettes.
Mr. Goerlitz believes that the media has yet to accurately or fairly cover this story. Journalists that do have a sincere interest in learning how the e-cig is changing lives while larger powers attempt to "squash" this new technology will find this debate very intriguing reading as there are many, many U.S. citizens involved and effected.
