Sixty percent of the respondents view the risk of metadata leakage via documents sent or forwarded via a mobile device as medium to high over the next 12 months– Full Results Are Now Available -
LegalTech, New York (PRWEB) February 1, 2010 -- 3BView, a global leader in metadata removal, today announces the results of their “Mobile Device Usage and Document Security” survey that was conducted in late 2009. The focus of the survey was to better understand how mobile devices are being used in the day-to-day practice of a legal professional. The full survey report can be found at www.3bview.com/download/3BView%20Survey%20Results%202009.pdf.
“Mobile devices such as Blackberry, iPhone, PDAs and Netbooks present an increasingly practical alternative to laptops. They can access internal systems and enable the review, edit and forwarding of documents,” stated Paul Averill, CEO of 3BView. “However, as we found through this survey, while more than 90 percent of firms with 51+ attorneys have a metadata tool in place for their desktops, only three percent have protection for documents sent or forwarded via e-mail from a mobile device.”

The survey received 236 responses from legal professionals around the world - 68 percent of respondents came from the United States and 14 percent of respondents came from the UK.
“We were very pleased with the participation we received with this survey and feel that it gave us a better read on what legal professionals are doing,” continued Averill. “While the risks of inadvertent metadata disclosure are well understood within the legal profession, there is clearly a rapidly emerging security gap via mobile devices.”
The company has also written a white paper titled, “Document Metadata: The Mobile Security Gap” that further analyzes this survey as well as other industry surveys. The paper can be accessed at www.3bview.com//download/Mobile%20Security%20Gap%20White%20Paper.pdf.
