Irving, TX (PRWEB) January 28, 2010 -- The David H. Nickerson Foundation has announced the date and location for the 2010 Par For the Cure Golf Tournament. The PFTC will be held on April 16, 2010 at the Four Seasons Resort in Las Colinas, Texas. This TPC course is home to the HP Byron Nelson Championship PGA Tour event. Last year, the first ever Par For the Cure Golf Tournament raised over $25,000 for prostate cancer research. This year we hope to double it!
You can assess your risk of the disease and other cancers by visiting The American Cancer Society or follow the link from either of our two sites: www.parforthecure.org and www.davidscure.org
In addition to donating the proceeds we also hope to raise awareness about screening and testing. You should consider talking to your physician about testing for prostate cancer if you are a male over the age of 50 and at average risk. Men should actively take part in this decision by learning about prostate cancer and the pros and cons of early detection and treatment of prostate cancer.
This discussion should take place starting at age 45 for men at high risk of developing prostate cancer. This includes African American men and men who have a first-degree relative (father, brother, or son) diagnosed with prostate cancer at an early age (younger than age 65).
This discussion should take place at age 40 for men at even higher risk (those with several first-degree relatives who had prostate cancer at an early age).
The recipient of all proceeds and donations is the Siteman Cancer Center, a joint venture between Washington University in St. Louis and Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Parent Institutions Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine are nationally recognized, with U.S. News & World Report magazine consistently ranking both among the best in the country.
According to Steven Cash Nickerson, founder and President of the foundation: “We time this event to be a few weeks before the PGA’s Byron Nelson Classic so the course is in tip top condition—a treat for our participants— and donating to the cause makes this an excellent excuse to play the 18 holes. We also have various sponsorships on the day of the event. We look forward to a great day of golf and to provide much needed research dollars to cure this disease which affects 1 out of 6 men.” To register or make a donation please visit www.parforthecure.org to find out more about the foundation visit www.davidscure.org.
