Serious Pimp is sponsoring Shields in his face off against Mayhem. Shields, who is looking to extend his 12-fight winning streak, will be sporting a pair of Serious Pimp sunglasses as he makes his way to the ring.
Irvine, CA (Vocus/PRWEB ) November 5, 2009 -- Jake Shields is looking to secure a baker’s dozen of consecutive wins in this Saturday’s Strikeforce title fight with Jason "Mayhem" Miller. Winning the fight on November 7, 2009 will give him the middleweight belt, but to do that he’ll have to defeat the tall, lanky Mayhem, a fighter known for his strong Jiu Jitsu.
“This is going to be an exciting fight for fight fans,” said Jake Shields. “Jason is a natural middleweight and he’s got a strong record.”
The 30-year-old Shields has a strong record himself. His 12-fight win streak dates back to November 2005 and includes victories against a field of strong opponents such as Carlos Condit, Nick Thompson, Yushin Okami, Mike Pyle, Robbie Lawler and Paul Daley, among others. His overall record is 23-4 with 1 no-contest.Lawler is the only fighter both have faced. Shields moved up from welterweight, his natural weight class, and finished Lawler with a guillotine choke in the 182-pound catch weight bout in June of 2009. Mayhem finished Lawler with an arm triangle in 2006.
The two will face off in a fight for the vacated Strikeforce middleweight championship belt. Miller’s record is 22–6, with 1 no contest.
"We’ve sponsored Jake Shields since 2005 and are thrilled to be sponsoring him in this event," said Serious Pimp CEO Damian Kutzner.
Serious Pimp recently revamped its product line to focus on sunglasses that blend the hip-hop style of Snoop Dogg, Tha Dog Pound and Ice-T with MMA attitude exhibited by fighters like Jake Shields. The company has a history of supporting MMA fighters.
“The Strikeforce bouts on CBS bring the MMA experience to a massive worldwide audience,” continued Damian Kutzner. “This is premium entertainment featuring some of the finest fighters in the sport today. Both Shields and miller have earned the majority of their career wins by submission. Considering that both like to grapple, this should be a fight to the finish.”
When asked about his training for this fight, Shields responded, “I’ve been working on every aspect for this fight. I’ve been doing boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, jiu jitsu, conditioning. I’ve been working on everything. I haven’t been working on just one approach to fighting ‘Mayhem.’ I’m just working on every aspect.”
Russian Mixed Martial Arts heavyweight fighter Fedor Emelianenko will face the iron-fisted up-and-comer Brett Rogers in the main event of Strikeforce. Shields and Mayhem fight just prior in the co-main event. The event takes place at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois and will be broadcast live on CBS.
