Pasadena, CA (PRWEB) November 13, 2009 -- The Family Law Section of the Pasadena Bar Association held a luncheon on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 honoring Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

According to Donald P. Schweitzer, the Chairman of the Pasadena Family Law Section, "October is domestic violence awareness month and we thought it would be appropriate to invite speakers who are actively involved in the fight to help domestic violence victims."

One of those speakers was Trish Steele, the founder of Safe Passages. Safe Passages is an organization dedicated to assisting domestic violence victims, often going further than providing temporary relief to victims, as they actually find ways to get victims back on their feet by giving them a complete "makeover." Ms. Steele provided the Family Law Section with a video presentation of the numerous individuals they have helped through the organization.

Another speaker at the luncheon was Sara Rondon. Ms. Rondon is the project coordinator for the Domestic Violence Project, at the Pasadena Courthouse. Ms. Rondon and her staff see the worst types of domestic violence cases on a daily basis. She provided answers to questions concerning how the budget will impact her project and spoke about the economy's role in the increase in the amount of domestic violence cases.

"Domestic Violence has become somewhat of a political topic during the past several years and we attorney's tend to be a little jaded. I hope that our meeting will remind everyone that in spite of the politics, there is and always will be real victims of domestic violence and we should be doing whatever we can to protect the victims," said Schweitzer.
