St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) November 19, 2009 -- Responding to global interest in and concern for product safety, ADK Information Services and the Centers for Supply Chain Management and Entrepreneurship at Saint Louis University’s John Cook School of Business have announced the release of the 2010 Product Safety & Recall Directory.

Industry associations supporting the product safety initiative include the Craft and Hobby Association, Juvenile Products Manufacturer Association, International Sleep Products Association, and the National Alliance for Food Safety and Security.
In development for the past year, the new product safety guide is part of an initiative to help companies identify product safety information and suppliers who can help them achieve their product safety goals. The directory is available from ADK Information Services in both hard copy and online versions at www.adksafetyinfo.com.

Nearly 200 service provider locations in 40 countries are included in the directory enabling manufacturers to locate test labs, product liability attorneys, product safety consultants and other suppliers who can help them design and implement product safety programs or recall products found to be defective.

Product safety officials obtain the directory at no cost. Service providers pay a modest listing fee to help underwrite the directory. The directory also contains information about government agencies with safety authority and articles about product safety from industry experts.

Industry associations supporting the product safety initiative include the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation, Craft and Hobby Association, Juvenile Products Manufacturer Association, International Sleep Products Association, and the National Alliance for Food Safety and Security. The groups are promoting the use of the directories to their members as a way of advancing product safety practices.

Donald Kornblet, president of ADK Information Services, a St. Louis-based company specializing in the product safety field, is excited about the opportunity to provide this important resource to businesses.

“We look forward to working with academic, business, government and industry associations to help companies further develop their capacity to design and manufacture safer products,” Kornblet said. “The directory will be especially useful to small and medium sized companies now under increased scrutiny for compliance with product safety regulations.”

Ik-Whan Kwon, Ph.D., director of the University’s Center for Supply Chain Management, said the collaboration with SLU’s John Cook School of Business has provided an opportunity for the school to support the project through the use of on-campus facilities, student involvement and faculty expertise.

“Saint Louis University is proud to support product safety through information and training programs that our business school is uniquely qualified to deliver,” Kwon said. “Product safety is tied directly to supply chain management principles and our expertise in this field is based on faculty academic expertise and real world experience.”

Steve Epner, Innovator-in-Residence at SLU’s Center for Entrepreneurship, looks at the value of the information for small business owners.

“New regulations and tougher enforcement are requiring more companies to be prepared to react properly if a recall is needed,” Epner said. “This requires planning and execution. Both are made easier with an up-to-date directory of resources.
