SRC successfully deploy speech recognition at Powell Spencer & Partners. The solution provides users with a better way of producing their own documents, whilst also delivering time and cost savings. SRC have enabled end users to achieve accuracy rates of more than 98% for all documents and statements created using their voice.
London (PRWEB) October 21, 2009 -- SRC (www.src.co.uk), the UK's leading provider of speech recognition and digital dictation solutions, today announced that it has successfully deployed speech recognition at criminal law specialist, Powell Spencer & Partners. The solution optimises document creation, providing fee earners with the ability to create documents and prepare statements using their voice. SRC provided a proven and rapid adoption route and, working in partnership with Nuance, demonstrated the powerful benefits of Dragon version 10.
Significant cuts in 'Legal Aid' funding have been driving the need for reduced support costs within the firm, in some instances forcing fee earners to do an increasing amount of typing and leading to inefficient use of their time. Powell Spencer already use a digital dictation system to enhance the efficiency of transcription and, like many law firms, had also evaluated speech recognition some years ago, but at that time found it was unable to meet the firm's specific needs. However, following an impressive demonstration of the latest version of the Dragon solution by SRC, Powell Spencer began reinvestigating speech recognition.
An initial pilot of the SRC speech recognition solution showed that users were spending considerably less time creating documents and emails, freeing up more time for fee earning work.
Diana Du Bruyn, Practice Manager at Powell Spencer & Partners added: "Like other firms we need to be more efficient and while digital dictation provides advantages, we also wanted to provide users with a better way of producing their own documents, whilst also delivering time and cost savings. SRC were the obvious choice with their longstanding experience, ability to train users in effective and short sessions and deliver remarkable results."
SRC delivered the project and employed a new profiling service and training methodology, which ensured users were achieving accuracy rates of over 95% within minutes of first using the system. The solution also incorporates SRC's legal vocabularies and context building, which has enabled end users to boost accuracy rates to more than 98%. This level of accuracy also extends to specific criminal law and personal injury terminology and a diverse range of client names.
"SRC have impressed throughout, from the initial demonstration through to deployment and follow-up. Fee earners now have the confidence and ability to significantly reduce the amount of secretarial support they require. SRC made the whole process of rolling out speech recognition incredibly easy and the success of the project has been well beyond our expectations," added Diana Du Bruyn.
Greg Powell, Managing Partner at the firm added: "SRC's training has been invaluable and essential. It has enabled our lawyers to exploit the solution to work faster and without total reliance on secretarial support. Words appear on screen as they are spoken and the accuracy levels are higher than self-typing. We can see documents and statements develop as we speak, which makes it far easier to check vital information has been included and also rationalises document sign off."
Powell Spencer are now planning to deploy speech recognition to more users.
Chris Hart, CEO at SRC commented: "Cost savings and efficiency are important to any firm, particularly where funding is being significantly cut. It is our goal to provide firms with proven solutions that deliver savings, but also ensure ease of use by the professionals involved in the document creation process. Seeing the positive reaction of lawyers at Powell Spencer to our speech recognition solution confirms the success of this project."
The SRC speech recognition solution can work alongside any digital dictation system and using the same input devices for both speech recognition and digital dictation. Fee earners at Powell Spencer use their existing Philips SpeechMike devices to dictate into the SRC speech recognition solution.
