Barbara Dawson, Partner at Leading Arizona Law Firm, Elected Chair of Lex Mundi

Three officers, two executive committee members and four directors begin new terms.

Houston, TX (Vocus/PRWEB ) October 26, 2009 -- Barbara Dawson, a partner with Snell & Wilmer L.L.P., Lex Mundi's member firm for Arizona, was elected Chair of Lex Mundi by the organization's Board of Directors during the Lex Mundi 2009 Annual Meeting in Madrid. Ms. Dawson becomes the second female to serve as chair of the association. Lex Mundi is the world's leading association of independent law firms with 160 member firms and more than 21,000 lawyers worldwide.

Ms. Dawson has been with Snell & Wilmer for 20 years. Her practice area concentration is complex commercial litigation and internal investigations. Her areas of focus include financial institution matters, tax disputes, class actions and alternative dispute resolution. Before becoming chair, Ms. Dawson served in a number of leadership roles in Lex Mundi, including Chair of the Litigation, Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Practice Group; Chair of the Lex Mundi Diversity Committee; and Chair of the Lex Mundi Women and the Law Committee.

Lex Mundi's Board of Directors also elected Michiel Wesseling of Houthoff Buruma (the Netherlands) to the position of Chair-Elect, Simon Truskett of Clayton Utz (Australia) to the position of Secretary and Cheryl Hodder of McInnes Cooper (New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, Canada) to the position of Treasurer. In addition to these new officers, the Board also elected two new Executive Committee Members: Gillian Clarke of Clarke Gittens & Farmer (Barbados) and Keith Simmons of Bass, Berry & Sims PLC (Tennessee, USA).

At the same Annual Meeting, the membership elected four new directors to the Lex Mundi Board of Directors: José María Eyzaguirre of Claro y Cia. (Chile); Alvin Hiromasa Shiozaki of Nishimura & Asahi (Japan); Christopher Richardson of Davis Graham & Stubbs LLP (Colorado, USA) and Brian Burke of Baker & Daniels LLP (Indiana, USA). They will serve four-year terms. Christel Van den Eynden of Liedekerke Wolters Waelbroeck Kirkpatrick (Belgium) was appointed for a one-year term to fill a vacancy on the Lex Mundi Board of Directors.
