New Orleans, LA (PRWEB) September 16, 2009 -- Governor Bobby Jindal's issued a proclamation declaring September 13-19, 2009 as paralegal week in Louisiana. The proclamation acknowledges the paralegal profession as an invaluable service to the legal profession as well as to the general public. Paralegal organizations throughout Louisiana have planned educational seminars, luncheons and networking functions to honor their profession including an educational seminar to be held Friday, October 9th at the Bourbon Orleans Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana.
In celebration of paralegal week, the Baton Rouge Paralegal Association's monthly luncheon featured Dorothy Sullivan who discussed, "The Paralegal Profession - Our Past, Present and Future!". The luncheon was on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Drusilla Seafood Restaurant in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Carl Butler of LeBlanc Butler, LLC will speak to the New Orleans Paralegal Association about the "Paralegal As A Problem Solver". The luncheon will be at the Louisiana State Bar Association, at 601 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans, on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at noon.
The Lafayette Paralegal Association is celebrating paralegal week with a Social and Membership Drive this Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at noon at the a' la carte Café at 301 Heymann Boulevard in Lafayette.
The New Orleans Paralegal Association's Annual Educational Seminar will be held on Friday, October 9th at the Bourbon Orleans Hotel and features keynote speaker U. S. Attorney, Jim Letten, and honored guest, Karn L.Weirman, director of University of New Orleans's paralegal studies program, a mentor to the paralegal profession for over 20 years.
Kathy Williams, president of the New Orleans Paralegal Association, believes there is an increased momentum among paralegals who are self-motivated to learn the tools of their trade. "We are all excited about the 2009 Seminar as it will be the best ever," she said, "we have an exciting line up of talented attorney speakers and a lot of interests from paralegals who want to be leaders in their fields."
The educational seminar is from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and features the following speakers: Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand, "Make it Your Business to Know: Corporate Compliance", Eric Liddick with Jones Walker, "You've Been Served! LOL: Is Service through Facebook Really Possible?", Marie Erickson, Esq., professor at UNO's Paralegal Program, "Legal Research Bootcamp", Sandra D. Miller of Entergy, "Recognizing What You Can't Change: Managing Generational Differences in the Legal Community", Cynthia Traina, Esq., professor at UNO's Paralegal Program, "Bankruptcy Chapter 7 Means Test, What Does It Mean?", and Paul Minicler, Esq., "It CAN Happen To Me: Organize Your Documents Before the Next Disaster".
