Noticeable trends in counties across the country show a decrease in divorce. The economy is thought to be a cause to the possible national leanings.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 5, 2009 -- The economy apparently has a direct impact on marriage. Some unhappy couples are gritting their teeth and staying together, according to observations made by an informal meetup group of divorcees, Divorce Support Meetup Group. Though there is not a national study out yet, it appears in cities like Tampa Bay, Washington D.C and even smaller counties like Yakima County in Washington are experiencing a decline in divorce filings. ABC news recently reported Florida Judge John Lenderman saying, "Really, truly, we are seeing fewer cases as a result of the economy." There are two theories which are prescribed to the trend (1) Divorce is far more expensive than ever thought presently. (2) With the recession ramping up around the country, promoting more financial insecurity doesn't seem to wise. People are thinking about clean credit more preemptively, before they make an emotional decision that could impact their economical reality.
How Divorce Decrees can Impact your Bank Account
Divorce decrees do not supersede the original contracts with your lenders. If you are divorcing, consider how your former spouse's behavior could affect your credit rating. Learn and find out how credit accounts opened during marriage can affect your credit history or fixing credit after divorce. The meet-up group recently held a meet-up session to help married couples understand the impact of divorce by using the Hogans (Hulk & Linda) as an example in their meeting to draw the parallels to real life. The judge could easily decree Linda to pay down the debt and remove Hulk, even though Hulk used the credit card to purchase tools for the garage, and a new weight set. Their divorce decree might also state that Hulk would pay the balances on the other three joint credit card accounts. "Most people going through divorce have little awareness of how divorce can affect the accounts that they formerly held jointly with their spouse", says Chip Armstrong, attendee of the session.
Main learning from the session were as follows; Order a copy of your credit report, especially if you are considering divorce. Think about the life events that may have impacted your personal credit report (divorce; loss of job; sickness etc.) and be ready to explain the "why's". Just with Hulk & Linda maybe they cannot pay off credit which could be ordered in a decree, then divorce and separation can cause bad credit for both of them, regardless of who is responsible . Find out what you are liable for in divorce, and know if there is a chance that unmanageable debt falls upon you the only option left is to find a way to come out it as soon as possible together or not.
