New York, NY (PRWEB) March 12, 2009 -- The New York Association of Collaborative Professionals (NYACP), a non-profit organization dedicated to non-adversarial, inter-disciplinary Collaborative Practice for dispute resolution, recently named MaryEllen Linnehan, Esq., as president. Ms. Linnehan succeeds NYACP cofounder and outgoing president Elizabeth A. Reingold, Esq.
"Collaborative Practice combines the expertise of legal, mental health, and financial professionals to transform the way that people resolve conflict in order to avoid an adversarial legal process," explains Linnehan. "I will be dedicating my presidency to the advancement of Collaborative Practice by supporting our members through community-building, networking, training and outreach to populations in need of our services. I also look forward to working with our esteemed past president, Elizabeth Reingold, in advocating for the passage of the Uniform Collaborative Law Act in New York. This act will standardize and promote Collaborative Law across state lines."
MaryEllen Linnehan is an accomplished attorney specializing in Interdisciplinary Collaborative Practice. Since 2005, she has been a partner at Day & Linnehan Center for Collaborative Law and Divorce Mediation PLLC in New York City and Mount Kisco, New York. The Center assists families in achieving comprehensive, non-adversarial, out-of-court settlements in matrimonial and family law conflicts. Prior to that, she ran the Law & Mediation Offices of MaryEllen Linnehan in New York City and Rye, New York, focusing on Collaborative Law and Divorce Mediation. An accomplished and dynamic speaker, Linnehan frequently gives presentations and teaches seminars on divorce mediation and collaborative practice topics.
Linnehan has served as an NYACP director since 2004 and is a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, the Family & Divorce Mediation Council of Greater New York, for whom she served as director and vice president, the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation, the New York State Bar Association Family Law Section, the Westchester Women's Bar Association, and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. She graduated from Boston University School of Law, earned her Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, in Biology and English from Tufts University, and received a Master's Degree in Fine Arts from Brown University. Linnehan was an adjunct instructor in fiction writing at Brown University, Yeshiva University, Stern College, and the Gotham Writers' Workshop. She lives in Chappaqua with her husband, three children, and assorted pets.
Elizabeth A. Reingold, Esq., was instrumental in founding the New York Collaborative Law Group (NYCLG) in 1999 to bring together lawyers who were interested in helping resolve family issues through the Collaborative Law process. She helped the group evolve into NYACP in 2007 as NYCLG opened up its membership to like-minded colleagues in the mental health and financial professions. Today, the association has over 150 members throughout metro New York.
"My goal is to help bring this relatively new organization to a higher and deeper level of success, because I believe the work we do as collaborative professionals is so important for families in conflict," says Linnehan. "By serving as president, I will help shape the future of the organization in a direction that I believe really will make a difference in people's lives."
