Faced with recession woes, housing bailouts, stock market tumbles, and growing job losses, many American's primary focus may be on their own financial situation rather than charitable giving. United States Organizations for Bankruptcy Alternatives (USOBA) is stepping up to the plate.

USOBA sponsored a family of five this Christmas season by teaming up with the Communities in Schools of Central Texas (CIS) program. This charity is the largest dropout prevention organization in the area and works with at-risk students in grades pre-k through 12, as well as with their families and communities, to provide opportunity, hope, and change.

During the Holidays CIS matches those who want to give with those who are in need through a more personal approach. USOBA was matched with a specific family from a local school to sponsor this season. The company received a Christmas wish list from the family and then provided gifts to meet those needs. It is a great program that gives the family exactly what they really want and need.

USOBA is the leading trade association in the debt settlement industry. The spirit of helping others is exactly what the debt settlement industry is all about, so it was a great fit for USOBA. Jenna Keehnen, executive director, encourages all USOBA members to get involved in giving back. "Our member companies focus on helping financially distressed consumers overcome debt burdens and USOBA provides various support and representation to its members. We feel that we indirectly assist a vast number of consumers through our member companies but this opportunity lets us directly impact the lives of a family."

"We are very happy to have community minded companies like USOBA and its employees to help us support families and communities," comments Alissa Magrum, Director of Communities in Schools' Volunteer Services and Community Partnerships. "It is even more vital to give back now, based on this country’s current economic situation. Our students and their families are in greater need now than ever."
