Indeed, graduates of New York State's 15 law schools passed the July 2008 New York bar exam at better than a 90% rate. But the next New York bar exam is not until February 2009, and between now and February those with a bar exam failure in July, the "retakers," may slip into what Dr. Mary Campbell Gallagher calls a spiral of failing NY bar exam results. Between November and February, most retakers must find or keep a job, earn money, take time off for intensive study, and pay for bar-preparation courses. They cannot get new student loans, but they must repay the loans they already have.
