Henley-Putnam University Sponsors Teleconference on "Arson Investigation: An Insider's View"

On Wednesday, June 26 from 10 a.m. (PT), Mr. Doug Leahy, a former Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) Agent and certified fire investigator and explosives specialist, will speak about "Arson Investigation: An Insider's View" via a teleconference hosted by Henley-Putnam University (www.henley-putnam.edu).

San Jose, California (PRWEB) June 23, 2008 -- On Wednesday, June 26 from 10 a.m. (PT), Mr. Doug Leahy, a former Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) Agent and certified fire investigator and explosives specialist, will speak about "Arson Investigation: An Insider's View" via a teleconference hosted by Henley-Putnam University (www.henley-putnam.edu).

The teleconference will include topics such as:

  • Fire scene investigation techniques, process and how to determine whether a fire was accidental or caused by arson
  • The process of determining possible motives
  • Roles and responsibilities of onsite investigators and specialists
  • Profiling and surveillance of suspected arsonists and serial arsonists
  • Revenge and business competition fires
  • Domestic terrorism: Eco-terrorists, like the Earth Liberation Front (ELF) and Animal Liberation Front (ALF), sometimes resort to arson to destroy property in furtherance of their causes

Mr. Leahey will include in his briefing what the ATF looks for in its new recruits, and those traits that will help ATF agents advance in their careers. There will be a brief Question & Answer session following the seminar.

About the Presenter
Mr. Doug Leahey was a senior special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) from 1971 until his retirement in 2000. During that time he was a certified fire investigator as well as a certified explosives specialist and a member of the ATF's National Response Team. He was also an instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia, and at the International Law Enforcement Academy in Budapest, Hungary. Since his retirement Mr. Leahey has continued his teaching at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in the counterterrorism division. He also serves as an expert witness on cases involving fire and explosives.
