Hazleton, PA Woman Awarded $1.5 Million Settlement in Luzerne County Case

A Pennsylvania woman has reached a $1.5 million settlement for personal injuries she received in a 2002 automobile accident.

Luzerne County, PA (PRWEB) June 4, 2008 -- A 2002 motor vehicle accident case filed in the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas has settled for $1.5 million.

Angela Christman, 44, Hazleton, sustained fractures of her right eye orbit, pelvis, right tibia, right fibula, right ankle, a cervical vertebra, and five ribs as well as a dislocation of her sacroiliac joint, in a head-on collision on December 31, 2002. The collision occurred when a 1993 Subaru Legacy driven by Wayne Hildebrand, Freemansburg, crossed a double-yellow line on State Route 209 near Lehighton, PA, striking Ms. Christman's 1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse in the front end.

Attorney Matthew A. Cartwright, of Munley, Munley & Cartwright, represented Ms. Christman. Mr. Cartwright stated that there was evidence that Mr. Hildebrand had fallen asleep when he drifted into the oncoming lane of travel. The accident happened at 5:30 a.m., at a time when Hildebrand was working a second job.

According to Cartwright, "This accident happened because the gentleman was burning the candle at both ends and just not getting enough sleep."

Attorneys for the defense were John J. Byrne, Scranton, and Gerard J. Cipriani, Pittsburgh.

The case of Angela Christman v. Wayne J. Hildebrand and Hazleton Standard-Speaker, Inc. (No. 2987-C-03) was filed on May 15, 2003 in Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas.
