Payne, original host of the long-running HGTV program “Designing for the Sexes,” is a Los Angeles-based interior designer, furniture designer, author, and speaker who has worked with corporations including Benjamin Moore, Exciting Windows!, Macy’s, Merrill Lynch, The Chicago Furniture Mart, The Powell Company and Wickes Furniture.

About Michael Payne
With degrees in physics and mathematics, Michael Payne began his career in the computer industry -– working first in his native England, then in the United States.    He eventually enrolled in the interior design program at UCLA, at the same time working with a Los Angeles-based firm that specialized in high-end, international clients.

In 1980, after completing his studies at UCLA, he founded Michael Payne, Inc., offering interior, architectural and landscape design services to homeowners and businesses. In 1998, he began hosting a new program on HGTV entitled “Designing for the Sexes.” The series ran for nine years, and was one of the network’s longest running.

Payne has appeared extensively on other television and radio programs nationwide, has been profiled by numerous newspapers and magazines, and has been a speaker at home shows, design events, museums, conferences, corporate events and charity functions.

He authored the best-seller “Let’s Ask Michael” (McGraw-Hill, $24.95, 191 pages) based on queries he received through the years from consumers looking to solve their most difficult design dilemmas. His second book – “House of Payne,” a first-person account of his own remodeling experience – is scheduled for release later this year.

Payne holds a bachelor’s degree in physics and mathematics from Southampton University, England, and a certificate in interior design from UCLA. He is a member of the American Society of Interior Designers and is a Certified Interior Designer in the state of California.

An avid runner, he has completed six marathons and numerous 10K races. Other interests include gardening, automobiles and antique toys.

He lives with his wife, Janice, in Los Angeles. Their son, Juston, lives in New York.
