Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) April 8, 2009 -- Parilman & Associates, a leading nationwide trial law firm, hereby announces that it is actively investigating claims that the prescription drug Raptiva is a cause of serious side effects in those who have used it. The firm is actively accepting inquiries from victims around the United States who feel that they have been injured in connection with this prescription drug.

Parilman & Associates has also launched a Web site, located at the URL RaptivaLawUSA to provide a resource for those injured to contact the firm and to provide information regarding the side effects linked to Raptiva. Potential victims are invited to visit the Web site and/or to contact the firm at 877-264-4944.

Raptiva is a drug that was intended to help patients manage psoriasis, a painful condition that attacks the skin and joints. According to the National Psoriasis Foundation, Raptiva works by, "blocking the activation of certain immune cells called T cells, and the migration of those cells into the skin. T cells are a type of white blood cell in the body; in psoriasis, once these T cells are mistakenly activated, they can trigger inflammation and other immune responses and fuel the development of psoriasis lesions. By blocking T-cell activation and the movement of these cells into the skin, Raptiva interrupts the cycle of psoriasis, leading to improvement in symptoms for many people who take it."

Several side effects have been linked to Raptiva, including:
Viral Meningitis
Bacterial Sepsis
Invasive Fungal Disease
Encephalopathy
Lymphoma
PML (Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy)

PML as of now is the most prevalent of the side effects. PML affects the brain and presents diverse symptoms given its ability to attack different portions of the central nervous system. Those with weakened immune systems have proven to be particularly vulnerable to the contraction of PML.

Ultimately, the FDA got involved after three people reportedly died after using Raptiva. The FDA required Genentech, Inc., the manufacturers of Raptiva, to include a 'Black Box' warning that clearly states the risks involved with the use of Raptiva.
